Meet Pamela Schoenewaldt, author of When We Were Strangers


On May 26th, the Humanities Division and Library Services will sponsor a 6pm reading by Knoxville author Pamela Schoenewaldt. She will discuss her novel When We Were Strangers in the Oak Ridge Campus City Room.



Ms. Schoenewaldt was Writer in Residence at the University of Tennessee Hodges Library and taught creative writing at the University of Tennessee. Previously, she lived in Naples, Italy for ten years. Her short stories have appeared in Belletrist Review, Bianco su Nero (Italy), Carve, Cascando (U.K.), Crescent Review (winning the Chekhov Prize for Short Fiction), Iron Horse Literary Review, Literal Latte, Mediphors, Knoxville MetroPulse, Mondogreco, New Letters, New Millennium Writing, New Letters, Paris Transcontinental, Pinehurst Journal, Potomac Review, Square Lake, The Sun, and Women’s Words. Her one-act play in Italian, “Espresso con Mia Madre,” (Espresso with My Mother) was produced at Teatro Cilea, Naples.

She is anthologized in The Movable Nest: A mother-daughter companion, Migrants and Stowaways, Literary Lunch, Outscape, and Knoxville Bound. She has served on the board of the Knoxville Writers Guild and works for FMB Advertising in Knoxville, where she lives with her husband, Maurizio Conti. Her novel, When We Were Strangers, published by HarperCollins in January, 2011, was called "a heartbreaking debut" by Publishers Weekly and was a Barnes & Noble Great New Writers Discovery Selection, a Book of the Month Club and Doubleday Book Club alternate and is now in its third printing.
